The Image and the Forum

The image and the form forum

Just when I was preparing a presentation for a workshop in sound (to take place in Helsinki this month), I took a sidetrack to implementing an “image archive” in Korakora.org.

Fireworks in Vigan City. Photo by Fats Lasay

(Photo: As soon as Reyna Elena entered the cathedral in Vigan, fireworks erupted. We sat under a mango tree beautifully pregnant with fruits - the one tree that I thought was so embarassed with such display of fertility in the plaza.)

At the moment, there is only one image in the archive. Later, there will be more - but work can continue only much later when I have returned from the sound workshop and have more or less settled again here in Quezon City.

Anyway, the intention behind using a forum/discussion format for an image archive is - as I have pointed out in the Korakora/EDU website - to explore the place of the image in the on-line learning environment. Visual aids abound in our media and our education systems, but what do they really do? How do we really use them and create them, and why? Can they become a centerpoint for open debate and discussion rather than deception and manipulation?

I have by the way managed to finish the presentation for the Art Camp: Diwa: Striking the balance in sound space. However, I intend to work on it some more on the road. Although the camp is from June 12-20, I am leaving tomorrow for Wales. I look forward to the journeys.

Unfortunately, due to security/permissions problems, I have decided to remove the Moodle installation (which Korakora/EDU runs on) and now re-direct all EDU links to a simple Mail Man installation (http://korakora.org/mailman/listinfo/diwa_korakora.org). I am curious as to the limitations. Also, I have installed a blog to list plug-in which means that all blog entries will also be sent to the Korakora discussion group (http://list.korakora.org/).
