A long weekend …

However, I will need to get work out of my mind when I’m trying to relax and find time for myself. Thinking about work even when you’re not actually working could be just as stressful.
My auntie finally got to celebrate her birthday with a lunch blow-out for close relatives at the Paciteria Lido. Of course Edward and Maria were there.
Here’s a photo of Edward while everyone’s not looking.

And here’s a photo of Maria, too.

My ex-partner arrived 3 days ago with lots of pasalubong, presents, just like a typical Pinoy balikbayan. However, he hasn’t got it right yet since he should’ve come home with lots of small things like keychains, wallets, soaps, etc. to give to not so close friends and folks like the security guard at the apartment gates, the cleaning lady, some friends. etc.
Then just yesterday we were at the dental clinic for our appointment. Finally got my teeth fixed and cleaned after nearly 3 years with a broken molar (I couldn’t go back to my old dentist because I knew it was going to cost a fortune).
Anyway, I like my new dentist a lot, she’s extremely patient and liked her job immensely, fixing teeth like a sculptor tinkering with all the small details. Later, a friend and her cousin came over - a friend who’s a dentist in Saudi Arabia just home for vacation, and a cousin who will soon be working overseas as well as a seafarer. I felt rather proud of my dentist for choosing to stay here in the Philippines…
Well, it seemed that the visit to the dentist sort of made my ex-partner rather pensive and worried. He talked about one of the patients turning pale after he got the bill for several teeth fillings. Simple realities of dental and medical care that are out of reach for majority of people here seem to affect him, and perhaps reminded him of how it was like to be poor in Britain. I guess poverty is a special case for people in western countries or rich countries with good social welfare systems, while here it’s just the everyday reality for most people. In the midst of that things could feel somewhat surreal. Things felt really surreal when I was in Swizterland, my first time to be in Europe.
Today, we went to a shop where they were selling these really lovely shawls from India and China. Oh, If I had all the time to myself I’d knit myself or weave myself a sheer glittery shawl!
I think I could do that and stop worrying about work! I have made myself an off-shoulder blouse and a skirt when I was 12, and crocheted myself a vest when I was 25. It was fun but I wasn’t very patient. Now that I’m older probably I’d have more patience to do such things again …
