Low tide treats
Posted by: Fats in: Fats, Vitamins & Minerals > Wala langWe managed to go to the baluarte again yesterday, Thursday afternoon - this time with my camera to take photos of the creatures along the coast. We came a bit late in the afternoon, though, because we had to wait for the water delivery to the house.
Anyway, it was nearly five in the afternoon when we got there - and taking photos started to get a bit hard in half an hour as it started to get dark. I was able to get enough photos though within a short period of time.
Below is one of the many sea urchins found along the coast.
And here is a pinkish colored coral or perhaps a sponge. I also found some that were ube - violet - colored.
Below is a close-up photo of one of many holes in the sand inhabited by all sorts of creatures, for example, a small crab. The other day, it was so amusing, Trevor found a shrimp and a fish living in the same hole in the sand - the shrimp burrowing away and the fish just lazily sitting there!
There were also plenty of striped fish, this one below, with horizontal stripes. We’ve found others with vertical stripes.
And below is a lovely pink sea urchin! Lovely but prickly!
And here is a fish that Trevor spotted - we came very near it and it didn’t even budge. It seems to be a puffer fish (which I heard could be venomous!!) pretending not to see us!
And below is another puffy looking fish which we found “crawling” on the sand. It’s quite tough spotting these creatures because of their camouflage.
And of course, there were so many starfishes on the sand, the rocks, the seaweed- and here is a really really big one!
Unfortunately, Trevor and I couldn’t find the blue starfish anymore - maybe next time. ![]()
Below is one of many bright colored corals that live all around the baluarte.
And here, below, is a crab with red-colored joints, pretending not to see me!
Here is another lovely coral. ![]()
And a big sea slug that Trevor found! ![]()
All sorts of seaweeds and seagrass are spread abundantly along the coast - here is one special type that look like mouse ears. ![]()
And then when it was starting to get dark, we started seeing more of these creatures - below - sea urchins perhaps? They are hairy creatures that open up to show this really bright green cavity in the center.
I have absolutely no idea what all these creatures are, so anyone out there who knows - help would be greatly appreciated!!
